Mangalore: Anisha, Daniel, Shifani Win Kavita Trust's Konkani Poetry Writing Competition

Mangalore, Dec 21: The results of the late Charles and Theresa Rodrigues Memorial All India Konkani Poetry Writing Competition conducted by Kavita Trust have been announced. While the first and second prizes have been won by children from Goa, the third prize has been bagged by a student from Bajpe, Mangalore.
A total of 79 students from Goa and Karnataka took part in the fifth edition of this competition, which was held for the students of 6th to 10th grades.

The first prize winner Anisha Naik Gaonker of Holy Cross School, Quepem, Goa will get Rs 2000 in cash, a certificate and a memento. The second prize winner Daniel Fernandes of St Antony's Institute, Monte De Guirim, Goa will get Rs 1000 in cash, a certificate and a memento, while the third prize winner Shifani D'Souza of Little Flower Higher Primary School of Bajpe, Mangalore will get Rs 750 in cash, a certificate and a memento.
The prizes will be handed over to the winners on January 8, 2012 on the occasion of 'Kavita Fest-2012' - a full-day event to be held at Moodubelle, Udupi.
Anisha Naik Gaonker has already penned many poems. Her prize winning poem 'Mon Mhojem' (My Mind) is about a child's ever changing thoughts. She has used simple but apt metaphors in her poem. Danile Fernandes poem 'Faleamcho Sury' (Tomorrow's Sun) talks about humanity. Shifani D'Souza, sixth grade child has written her poem on the moon.
For the past five years altogether 901 children have taken part in this competition.
The first prize winner has qualified to take part in the multi-lingual poetry session being held during Kavita Fest, the succeeding year. Kavita D Fondekar had won the first prize last year and she is participating in this year's poetry session.
This competition has been sponsored by poet Melvyn Rodrigues in the name of his late parents.
