Mangalore: 'Tuje Charanni' Album of Konkani Devotional Songs Released

Mangalore, Dec 20: "These devotional songs are not only different but also special. Their lyrics, tunes and composition are blended in such a way that listening to these devotional songs takes you to closer to God” said Fr Valerian Mendonca, director, Sandesha, after releasing 'Tuje Charanni', Konkani Devotional Audio Album at Press Club here.

Melvyn Rodrigues, eminent Konkani poet and director (operations) of Daijiworld present on this occasion and wished all the best to 3 Souzas, under whose banner has been produced. "Singing or listening to devotional songs is also a part of prayer. It is a soothing experience," he said.

Anil Pernal, Konkani poet and lyricist welcomed the members of the press and introduced the guests. Anil said, "We have tried our best to bring in Indian music. Tunes and instruments are almost Indian and the songs are like Bhajans in style."

Marian D'Souza spoke his experience of making of 'Tuje Charanni'. Cicilia D'Souza, co-producer of the Album was present on the dais.

About the Album

'Tuje Charanni' devotional Konkani audio album consists of 12 songs which are traditional in nature. Lyrics are by Marian D'Souza and Anil D'Souza from Pernal and Wilfred R from Pangla, Shankerpura.

Most of the lyrics are written by Anil, popularly known as Anil Pernal, basically a poet, who has contributed his lyrics to a number of devotional albums in Konkani. He has also published his collection of poems in Konkani. Wilfred R Pangala is also a  fine writer of both prose and poetry and has published his poetry collections and writings in Konkani.

Most of the tunes are composed by Marian, who has a passion for Konkani music and was the inspiration/initiator and sponsor of the First Global Konkani Music Awards in 2009 organized by Mandd Sobhann.

The music has been beautifully programmed by Roshan D'Souza, Anjelore, winner of  Best Global Konkani Music Composer/Arranger Award  for 2010 -2011 organized by Mandd  Sobhann.

The music has been arranged by Joel Pereira, who is popularly known as Sangeet  Guru in Konkani. In this album he has blended traditional music with a modern touch with Indian musical instruments such as sitar, tabla, flute etc.

The songs have been sung by well-known singers of  Mangalore like Dr Prashanth Raj, Babita Pinto, Ivy D’Souza, Shilpa Cutinha, Anil D’Sa, Priya Menezes, Hariet Braganza, Robin Sequeira and Priya Menezes.

The recording of the songs was done at Cad Centre, Mangalore by Shinoy Joseph. Mixing and mastering was done at Rajshree Studio, Calicut.
