Udupi, Dec 11: The VTU Mangalore Zone Throwball Tournament (Women) 2024 was successfully conducted at Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, showcasing exceptional sportsmanship and enthusiasm among participants from various colleges of Mangalore region. The event was inaugurated with grandeur at the college ground. The chief guest for the occasion was Dr Prathibha R, KAS, tahsildar and taluk magistrate of Kaup Taluk, Udupi District. The guest of honor was Harish Belman, honorable governing council member of SMVITM, and the programme was presided over by Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal of SMVITM.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Dr Prathibha emphasized the vital role of physical education in fostering holistic development. Reflecting on her personal experiences, she also highlighted that a woman, despite balancing multiple roles in her life, can achieve her goals through unwavering perseverance and determination.
She also emphasized how challenges and struggles can transform into blessings, paving the way to achieving one's goals. She applauded the enthusiastic participation of women athletes and encouraged them to value the learning and memories gained through such events over mere victories. Dr Prathibha also praised SMVITM for organizing the event and wished all participants success.
In his presidential remarks, Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat inspired the participants to consider Dr Prathibha as a role model and urged them to aim high in their future endeavors. He extended his best wishes to the teams, encouraging them to play with a spirit of sportsmanship.
Total nine teams from various engineering college of Mangalore zone affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University participated in the tournament. The student of Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management won the first prize and St Joseph engineering college secured the runner-up prize. Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal, SMVITM gave away the prizes for the winning teams. Paul Suraj, physical education director were present during the event.
