Mangalore, Dec 20: The newly established organization of the returnees from the Gulf countries "Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association" (KORWA) ushered in the Christmas spirit by organising its maiden mega 'Christmas Celebration 2011' event of fun and entertainment in St Aloysius College Auditorium, on Sunday, December 18 from 5 to 9.30 pm.
The programme began with an invocation by Fr Ravi Santosh Kamath and was symbolically inaugurated by him and Fr Melvin D'Cunha along with the KORWA members by lighting the candles.
Louis Lobo, President of KORWA in his welcome address traced the circumstances and objectives of establishing the "Konkan Overseas Returnees
Welfare Association" (KORWA). Outlining the objectives of KORWA, he said that the association would serve only the overseas returnees from Konkan region and seek to establish a fund for the welfare of the children of KORWA members towards meeting their educational and medical expenses.
Addressing the gathering Fr. Melvin said that the new association has taken birth from the first seed that KORWA has sown. It is a good sign that the overseas returnees have thought of their fellow community members and started this association with the aim of helping them in their needs.
The Christmas celebrations began with songs, Bollywood dances from Shads dance group enthralled the crowd, besides rib-tickling skits performed by Felix and group. Santa Claus too arrived with lots of goodies and sweets for the children. He distributed the gifts to every child. Around 50 children of Prashanth Niwas attended the program and enjoyed the festive atmosphere of the celebrations with other children and families. All the sponsors were honored on the occasion. The programme ended with sumptuous dinner.
On the whole, the maiden mega programme of KORWA was well organized, with good turnout and entertaining to the children and adults as well. The team work of the KRWA Committee members was quite exemplary.
