Udupi, Dec 20: The demand of the formation of separate Brahmavar taluk is quite old. Although the process of slicing out Brahmavar taluk by bifurcating Udupi taluk was set into motion a few years ago, formation of this taluk is yet to become a reality.
Local MLA, K Raghupati Bhat, addressing a programme of interaction with MLA organized by Consumers Forum here on Monday December 19, exuded confidence that Brahmavar will emerge as a separate taluk during next year.
He clarified that the taluk would have become a reality by now, but for the ongoing process of census. “Till December this year, no new taluk can be formed because of census. Both the former chief minister, B S Yeddyurappa, and current one, D V Sadananda Gowda, have approved formation of Brahmavar taluk,” he explained.
A number of people who participated in the meeting, complained about the sudden closure of some roads, which were hitherto being used by the people for long. Issues like inhuman behaviour on the part of auto rickshaw drivers and bus staff, non-provision for proper parking area in multi-storied buildings, poor condition of roads etc were raised by the people as well as the trustees of the forum. MLA asked the senior officials of the departments concerned to properly address these problems.
To a question about excessive charging of fares by some bus operators for certain routes, officials of the regional transport office, who were present, assured to take action against errant buses.
Zilla panchayat chief executive officer, Prabhakar Sharma, municipal president, Kiran Kumar, taluk panchayat president, Devadas Hebbar, P Ravindra Nayak, forum convener, Damodar Aithal, and others were present. Shantaraj Aithal presented the programme.
