Udupi, Dec 17: A complaint was registered in Brahmavar police station in the district on Friday December 16 against Sajit Shetty, organizer of Voddambettu Kambala near Kokkarne, alleging that the banned ‘Ajalu’ was practiced during the Kambala.
“Sajit Shetty, by organizing ‘Ajalu’ during the Kambala held on December 13, has violated Karnataka Koragas (Prohibition of Ajalu Practice) 2000. As such, legal steps should be initiated against him,” Dinesh Koraga said in a complaint filed with the police station.
On December 1, a petition had been submitted by Kokarne Zone Koraga Abhivriddhi Sangha to the tahsildar, asking him to ensure that the organizers of Kenjur and Voddambettu Kambalas do not violate provisions of the said act during their respective events. Thereafter, the organizers of these Kambalas had given an undertaking in writing to the policemen, not to violate the law. However, during the Kambala at Voddambettu, services or Koraga community members from far off paces had been utilized, it is said. On this backdrop, the above complaint was filed.
On December 14, the Sangha had organized a protest in front of the office of the district deputy commissioner. The policemen of Brahamvar station, who have registered a case, have begun investigation.
