Puttur, Dec 15: “The recognition of talent in oppressed classes must be done and the late Rajesh Shibaje, creative journalist and media awardee, set an example of honouring journalists with social concern, which is commendable,” said Fr Basil Vaz, parish priest, Alangar.
Fr Vaz was speaking after presenting the ‘Rajesh Shibaje Award’ to John D’Souza, reporter, ‘Vijaya Karnataka’ Kannada daily, Kundapur, and Palaksha Suvarna, photojournalist from Beltangady, during a function held at St George Pre-University College, Nelyady, on Wednesday December 14.
Patrakartara Vedike Udupi district president Shekar Ajekar, in his presidential address, said that the media has scope for journalists with social concern and mass communication students carve a niche in their chosen career.
Chittoor Prabhakar Acharya, editor, Udupi Mitra, Ujire SDM College professor Dr M P Sriniat, and St George Education Institutes correspondent Abraham Varghese were the chief guests on the occasion.
Principal M K Eliyas welcomed the gathering. Kannada lecturer Chetan Anegundy proposed the vote of thanks. Vishwanath Shibaje compered the programme.
