Hubballi, Nov 23: Congratulating the winning Congress candidate from Shiggaon, Yasir Khan Pathan, BJP leader and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai claimed that the ruling Congress party had won by use of money power.

Speaking to media persons at Hubballi on Saturday, the BJP Haveri MP said his party was confident of the victory of his son Bharat Bommai. However, the ruling party was able to swing the voters by use of its money power, he said.

Bommai claimed that BJP has implemented several developmental works in Shiggaon-Savanur assembly constituency.

“More than 40 Congress legislators and 10 ministers had camped in Shiggaon to campaign for the party candidate, which helped the ruling party,” he said.

At the same time, he said the ruling party generally wins all the by-elections. When BJP was in power in the State, the party had 13 out of the 17 by-elections, he said pointing out that BJP lost power in the Assembly polls.

The Congress need not brag about winning because of its work, he said.

The BJP leader said BJP and its allies have won in Maharashtra as expected on account of the unity of three alliance parties and the developmental work during the last three years.

Another former BJP minister C C Patil said the BJP had done lot of work in the three constituencies. But the ruling Congress party with its money power and official machinery was successful. However, the BJP accepts the verdict of the people, he added.
