Mangalore: Triumphant Powerlifters Accorded Warm Welcome

Mangalore, Dec 14: The victorious powerlifting team, who performed brilliantly at the Asian Power Lifting Championship that was held at Kobe city in Japan from December 5 to 9, were received in a grand manner at railway station here on Wednesday December 14.
The five players including Vinutha and Neha, both students of SDM College Ujire along with their coach Sathish Kumar Kudroli were welcomed by Mayor Praveen, the members of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, team of excise department led by Oovappa Gowda and as many as 1,000 Mangaloreans.
The palyers and their coach Sathish were taken in a procession from railway station to Balanjaneya Gymnasium.
Later the team visited DC Channappa Gowda’s office. He congratulated the team and encouraged them to participate in more number of events and bring laurels to the city as well as state.
Speaking to Daijiworld coach Sathish Kumar said that he is happy with the performance of players but Government should provide more support to the game. In order to take part in the international level lot of funds are required and it is not possible without Government help, he stressed.
The Powerlifters from State won 18 Medals at Asian Championship in Japan.
Prasad Shetty, Vinay Kanchan, Anand N,M Maheshwariah, Vinutha and Neha are the players who won the medals in various categories.
