Moodbidri, Dec 13: A woman raised a din in the municipal office here on Monday December 12, before assaulting chief officer, M V Ganesh, and revenue inspector, Dhananjaya. She also rained choicest abuse against the officials to give vent to her frustration.
Sunanda Poojary from Ontikatte in Marpady village had submitted an application to the municipality, seeking to build a house in her seven site plot located in a lay out set up in the village, on October 12. She said she had visited the municipal office several times thereafter, but that the officials have not been responding favourably to her needs.
Reportedly, she visited the chamber of chief officer on Monday morning, and questioned him why her application for RTC was pending. The chief officer replied that the work of issuance of RTC was handled by revenue department. Enraged by this response, the women grew wild, accused the chief officer of issuing house building licences to four others in her lay out while keeping her application pending, before assaulting him, it is said.
The municipal office staff rushed to the spot. When revenue inspector, Dhananjaya, was trying to capture the development in his camera, Sunanda reportedly snatched away the camera and beat him up with her hands.
The chief officer, on his part, clarified that his office could not issue the licence as sought by the applicant, as the lay out in question had not been approved by Town Planning Authority, adding that this decision was taken at the council meeting. He said that a council meeting held later had decided to issue licences in this lay out. The resolution passed in this connection has been sent to the deputy commissioner for his approval, he clarified.
The employees of the office, taking umbrage at the incident, decided to strike work. After some mediation, this decision was withdrawn. After the tahsildar intervened and mediated between the concerned, the issue was settled amicably, it is learnt.
