Mangalore: Awe-Struck Locals Watch Convoy of War Tankers

Mangalore, Dec 13: In what could be termed as a ‘rare show’, on Monday December 12, the  people on National Highway 66 were spellbound by the sight of three huge war tankers passing through the Thokkottu-Pumpwell area.
 
The tanks T-72 were displayed at the ‘Indian Army Mela’ held in Kannur, Kerala, from  December 8 - 10.

Defense minister A K Antony took part in that event which exhibited the war tankers of the Indian army for the awareness civilian for their general knowing.
 
After the Mela was over on December 10, the three huge war tankers made the journey to Hyderabad. Three war tankers with two persons in each started from Kannur, passed through Kasargod, and reached Mangalore on their journey towards Bangalore before reaching Hyderabad finally.
 
The army men were also found carrying kerosene stoves and cooking for themselves. When asked the reason, they said that since food of their choice may not be available all through their journey and as it would be expensive to eat in hotels, they preferred this.
 
They also informed that such war tankers were just for display and not fired for demonstration purposes. He said that they got the required  range to fire such war tankers only in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan in the country and nowhere else.

    Calvin you are wright T-72 is out dated tank, in some of the countries, but in India it is still a Main Battle Tank.72 is indicating the first year of manufacturing,The origin of the tank is undivided USSR it contains 125mm smooth bore gun,in 1973 it was first introduced in service.India is manufacturing MBT-Arjun by using its own technology.

    These are MBT's ( Main Battle Tank ).One such piece is called a " tank ". More than one are called " tanks " and not tankers.

    Tommorrow these few may call a "group of people" as "flock of people ".

    Please don't consume( ? )like a tank and be called a tanker! MERRY X'MAS & a fabulous New Year buddies.

    Dear Mallya sir, you are also wrong here. one, olive green coloured one's are old vintage type, only the light couloured one is T-72. secondly, India does not posess T-80, these are made in Ukraine and currently Pakistan has them. India in response bought the much modern T-90 which are a derivative of T-72 and made in Russia and presently assembled in India. But you have correctly pointed out that these are called TANKS. Tankers are used to carry liquids or gases.

    This is not a war tanker, it is War Tank. Tanker is using for transportation of oil or water or chemical. T-72 is war Tank.

    As someone has pointed out these are MBT (Main Battle Tanks) and not "Tankers". Tankers are trucks used for carrying fuel or water or other liquids in the Army..and in the Merchant marine,,"tankers" those huge ships which transport crude or petroleum products across the ocean..By the way these T-72 'tank's though outdated are still part of Indian Army inventory and along with T-80 tanks form the backbone of Indian Army armoured corps even today...

    It is called a main battle tank, and not a war tanker. Truck mounted tankers are used by the army to carry fuel or water as the case may be.

    I remember when I was kid- the war tankers of that era, moving on same highway on their own, as no transport could carry their weight were available at that time. Their chain marks were visible on road for several months.
