Mangalore: Navy Helicopter Catches Fire at Airport

Mangalore, Dec 12: In an incident that occurred on Monday December 12 afternoon, a navy helicopter (Navy C King – 42) caught minor fire while landing at the airport after its rotors got switched off.
When the personnel switched off the rotors, smoke started diffusing from helicopter. The fire brigade officials in the airport immediately swung into action and doused the fire.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Mangalore Airport Authority Director M R Vasudev confirmed that it was a minor fire and fire brigade personnel took timely action and prevented further damage. As many as 13 navy officers were in the helicopter and all are safe.
He added the helicopter had halted in Mangalore Airport for refueling. The helicopter was bound to fly from Cochin to Mumbai.
The fire was detected by one of the 13 navy officers when he got out of the helicopter to give directions to the rest of the crew.
The exact reason for the fire has not been ascertained yet. The incident occurred around 12.15 pm.
The navy has ordered an investigation into the incident.
