Mulky: 17 Injured in Head-on Collision Between Buses

Mulky, Dec 11: As many as 17 passengers were injured in a head-on collision that occurred on national highway 66 on Sunday December 11 afternoon between two buses. 

The accident took place close to Pavanje bridge near Mulky at around noon, when a private bus plying from Mangalore to Shimoga (via Udupi), in a bid to overtake a lorry, collided with another bus commuting from Karkala to Mangalore.

Fifteen passengers of Mangalore-Shimoga bus and two in Karkala-Mangalore bus sustained minor injuries.
 
All the injured have been treated in Srinivas Hospital, Mukka and Padmavathi hospital, Surathkal. The bus after collision veered towards a paddy field beside the national highway.
 
Traffic was disrupted for about an hour. A case has been registered in Suratkal police station.

    Passengers are OK with it then why should we as onlookers be bothered.

    what a shame to traffic department implement the strict traffic rules like gulf and european countries and lmited speed for the heavy and light vehicles and who is not obey traffic rules give penelty.put speed camares for control the speed.goverment is wasting money on unnecessary thing, do something better for public.

    Please build an airport in Udupi/Manipal. Let people fly from Mlore to Udupi by plane instead of these dangerous pvt buses which are as fast as planes.

    Drivers in private buses are more careless and running buses in competetion. Since they have no job security and furture benifits, they have no fear of their job. If any thing goes wrong very next day they will jump into another bus and get job with other owner. Implementation of long awaited KSRTC buses on N.H.66 is the best solution to reduce accident on N.H. 66.

    Ksrtc doesn't maintain proper time..no proper buses..ksrtc sucks..don't believe me ask with people from Mangalore/kasargod route private buses have been stopped..and they are begging for private now

    only one solution..just dissolve all private buses and hand over to ply more of government buses on regular intervals..by providing all facilities..!!

    secondly just shift ladies seat from back of driver and let it be there at the end...it's just nuisance to driver while driving due to these people's loud voice....rarely driver's looking at the road than more on view-mirror!!!

    As long as the Road Traffic authorities are sincerly serious to take stern action against these reckless/idiotic drivers, this type of accidents will continue every now and then. Alas! "the corruption devil" is killing the very system of Democracy!!!!

    Dear Gerald, modankap-bantval..truth is what Ram is sayings is correct! not only Drivers but more blame should go to who manages these bus transort companies...the timings set by these managements make drivers to go mad in their work to reach destiny...but by virtue they loose and make other to suffer damage!!
    Management thinks for days collection! ..sincere efforts from the fleet managements for their craze to earn at the cost of passengers life!!..its very strange in this part of the world!!

    Mangalore bus drivers have got information that is getting passed very quickly by which they come to know the police patrol a head and slows down at that place and once it is crossed they go pretty fast to cover the time. This i have observed personally. May be you didnt found police people off uniform and shooting the buses with handy cams in mangalore. There are steps taken for controlling the speed and rash driving. Police cannot do any thing because political backup they are taking steps in an alternative way jointly with RTO.

    You will understand whether the problem is because of bad roads or rash driving of the private bus drivers. Even though you have 4 lane highway with 400 feet road accidents happens in this stretch due to private buses. Roads should be widened and at the same time drivers should be restricted. Private bus drivers doesnt care about other vehicle and they will care about other vehicle only when other vehicle is pretty much bigger when compared to his vehicle. Try going in different sized vehicles in this stretch and you will find this out by yourself.

    Mangaloreans should protest and try to get more government buses on their road or else should protest for a speed controller equipped private buses. It is the people of Mangalore who prefer the bus which takes less time than the average time and forcing the bus drivers to go crazy to reach detination.

    I left Mangalore after a holiday recently and I have no doubt, THEY ARE A TICKING TIME BOMB. The way they drive, it is only a matter of time when an accident will happen. Invariably they think that nothing will happen to them because they are big vehicles. I have seen them push smaller vehicles out of the road, incessantly honking to make way for them and overtaking like maniacs as if 5 minutes late is going to bring their entire house down. They drive as if they own the roads. Zero patience while driving. While the commuters in the bus say nothing, little do they realise that they could be on the other side some day. Culprits are Express bus drivers. And please dont blame the prime minister like some idiot already has. Unbelievable.

    I had an uncle who used to drive buses from Mlr-Blr-Mlr...he use to get drunk at my place and evening he used to drive the bus back to mangalore. I always wondered is this what the private bus owners think about safety...Anna only worried about his banana..ask him to come to Mangalore and fight for curruption.

    Actually Indian drivers are very good, but the government is providing them very poor roads with heavy traffic. This is going on since India became indipendent. With a population of 1.2 billion and with the increase in number of vehicles, we could see more of this all over india unless real funds are invested in the infastructure to bring our roads to the 21st century.

    Manglore between udupi express drivers are very aggressive which they just run for day's collection. This kind of drivers attitute only RTO can control if they keep monitor spot on the highway.

    Very sad that so many people had to lose their lives because of the horrible drivers that do not follow the traffic rules. WHAT'S THE RUSH...with all the accidents happen and so many passengers loosing their live the drivers are unharmed or jump of the bus early...so that they can be saves and kill more people...Why not give life in prison for every person they kill when driving rationally crazy... have the middle eastern law or US law...the drivers are responsible for the peoples death...my condolences to the families.

    Its a nightmare for travelers going from udupi/mangalore.you are not sure if u will reach ur destination.sad govt/RTO do nothing as bus owners have political contacts.rules are applied to common man not high ups.

    Traffic department should make a point to issue the driving licence only those drivers who are properly trained from a reputed driving institute.It is also appreciated if traffic police does the patrolling to monitor the speed and put fine on reckless drivers on the spot.So that traffic department increase their revenue and also safeguard the commuters.

    The state government should stop issuing bus permits if they cannot widen the roads.Let people use bullcok carts and reach safe.The government and the public servants never show interest in widening the roads but keep collecting road taxes.

    This is a very sad situation in Mangalore and in Udupi. This is one incident just happened and there will be many more on the way. Non of the RTO officials give a damn to this problem. They have to finish off the projects they started with Kickbacks from bus owners. Only the public has to take action on their own with united agenda.
    I am happy that two buses are off the road for a while which means two less headaches. But I am sad and worried for the injured people and their families. May God heal them from injuries and get back to normal life. At the same time Kin of these injured should take severe action against the bus company and its owners.
