Udupi, Dec 8: District deputy commissioner, Dr M T Reju, informed that National Population Register (NPR) project has been in force in the district in place of Aadhaar scheme. He clarified that this is in tune with an order of the union home ministry.
“About 80 percent of information has already been collected by officials through door-to-door visits under NPR. As the information submitted for Aadhaar and NPR are almost similar in nature, cards with unique identity numbers will reach the respective families by post. Although the union government has entered into arrangements with the department of post, NSDL etc for implementing Aadhaar scheme, the same has not been extended to this district, as NPR is already in progress,” he explained.
Collection of data in respect of people who had not participated in the first round of the exercise, will be done during the second round.
As per the Aadhaar website, a total of 99,29,297 persons from Karnataka have registered themselves under Aadhar scheme so far, out of which, 31,17,831 cards have been issued.
