Happy that Government Relented on Retail FDI: Yechury

New Delhi, Dec 7 (IANS): Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Sitaram Yechury said Wednesday that his party was happy that the government had relented on the issue of foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail and "saved" the winter session of parliament.

"We are happy that the government relented on the FDI issue and saved the remaining part of the winter session, unlike the last winter session," Yechury told reporters, referring to the last winter session that was wasted over differences on the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) to probe the 2G spectrum scandal.

He said the party would back the adjournment motion to be moved by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the issue of black money.

Yechury said the adjournment motion should include the issues of corruption too, besides black money.

The government Wednesday announced the suspension of its decision to permit 51 percent FDI in multi-brand retail following protests from the opposition parties and its allies Trinamool Congress and DMK.
