Udupi, Dec 7: It is gathered that the investigating agencies have learnt from the arrested Indian Mujahideen militants that the terrorists had been converting the town, so far known for its religious places, into a hub of explosives manufacture.
The six terrorists, who were arrested recently in connection with blasts which went off at Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Bangalore, German Bakery in Pune, as well as New Delhi, are learnt to have told the officials that the terrorist outfits used to collect the items needed to manufacture explosives from Udupi. Sources said that these terrorists are likely to be brought to the town by these agencies, for further investigation.
In the past too, information about the links of terrorists to Kerala and Udupi had emerged. It is gathered that the information collected now is comprehensive. As such, the team of investigators is expected to visit some towns on Karnataka coast to put together more information.
It is said that Irshad, father-in-law of Yasin Bhatkal, has provided some critical information about the operation of terrorists in Udupi. The investigating agencies are increasingly suspecting the role of the members of the banned SIMI, who are active in southern states, in providing equipments and materials to Indian Mujahideen. They also believe that Yasin Bhatkal, who has gone into the hiding, has been working to rebuild Indian Mujahideen in the country.
