Mangalore, Dec 7: Rev Dr John S Sadananda, Bishop of CSI, Karnataka Southern Diocese, said that Jesus Christ lived in the world two thousand years ago, and that He continues to live with the people of the universe to guide them, correct them, and show them the way.
He was delivering benedictory address at the ‘Sauharda Christmas – 2011’ programme organized at Milagres Hall here on Tuesday December 6 by Mangalore Christian Council, in association with MDEC and Karnataka Christians Forum for Human Rights – western zone, as a prelude to the Christmas celebrations.
The Bishop explained that Jesus Christ is immortal, and that He has the power to unite the entire world. He expressed the optimism that with the guidance of Jesus Christ, the world can be converted into an abode of harmony and peaceful coexistence. He said that the world very much wants a gift of peace from Him. Adding that people need to be led towards peace to cure the world of all the ills, and should be taught to live harmoniously, he said that these two principles should be at the centre stage during Christmas celebrations this year.
Mangalore Bishop, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, in his address, recalled that Christ had taught people to love others, be joyful, and spread an environment of peace. “Christ loved people who were hungry, thirsty, and who suffered from evils and devils alike. He hated injustice and violence, and brought back light into the lives of people who were blind, and peace into the lives of those who were disturbed,” he explained.
Religious heads, Yakub Mar Eliyas, Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhi and Dr Geeverghese delivered Christmas messages, on the occasion.
A CD of ecumenical devotional songs was released on the occasion. Karnataka Theological College principal, Dr Hani Cabaral, welcomed. Dr Frederick Anil Kumar proposed vote of thanks. Mervin Manuel and Suneeta presented the programme.
