Udupi: One Killed, Two Injured as Car Collides with Parked Tanker

Udupi, Dec 6: One person died and two others were seriously injured when the car in which they were travelling rammed into a parked water supply tanker at Brahmavar here on Tuesday December 6.

The deceased has been identified as Lancy D'Souza (65) who was in the passenger seat. However, he is said to have died not due to injuries but of cardiac arrest at the time of collision.

Two other occupants of the car, Joel Rakshit Paul and Lancy's daughter Lavita Keerthi D'Souza, were injured and shifted to Brahmavar hospital. They were on their way back to Mangalore from Goa, it is learnt.

Sources said that the accident took place at around 2-2.30 am. The tanker, which supplies water for the ongoing road-widening work, was parked on the side of the highway after a breakdown, but it was not clearly visible in the dead of the night.

Brahmavar police have registered a case in this regard.

    Safety of the motorists is taken as last thing which can be expected.
    May the car driver hit the parked vehicle on wrong side which had brokedown.
    But there sould have place barication along the vehicle with reflectors atleast so that any road commuter recognises there's some kind of danger.
    Contractor should also be taken into charge for the negligence towards the safety which was not provided to road commuters.

    I think all Honda city models may not have airbags and secondly this is a problem peculiar to India! for airbags to deploy the collision has to happen at the bonnet level where the sensors are located. But in India most of the heavy vehicles are at a considerable height from ground and this results in a collision at the wind screen level and airbags may not deploy in this case as is the case with the above collision which is very clear.

    Amazing how the air bags never got deployed.
    Another example of sub-standards in the 3rd world countries from coke to honda there is no respite.

    May his soul rest in peace. Heart felt condolence to bereaved family members. I feel the car is on wrong side. After al it's in Gods hand. Before starting the vehicle must remember mother Mary n must say 3 times "Mother Mary on Bandel have mercy on us" in Bandel, Pradesh statue of Mother Mary showed way to a Brahmin at mid night when he was confused which way to go when he approached 4 cross
    roads. He spread this news to all. I am saying this prayer when I start for long
    Journey n even before moving my vehicle daily morning.
