Mangalore: Agari Award to Yakshagana Artiste Kolyuru

Mangalore, Dec 4: Kolyuru Ramchandra Rao, who is known for performing 'female roles' in Yakshagana has been selected for this year's Yaksha Brahma, Agar Shrinivas Bhagwat memorial 'Agari award'', announced Agari Raghuram Bhagwat, chair person for Agari Bhagawat Memorial Forum.

Kolyuru Ramchandra Rao has been nurtured under Agari Bhagwat. Later he took part in Dharmasthala, Kateelu, and Karnataka Melas since 44 years. He has acted in Tulu and Kannada Yakshagana and has attracted a lot of coastal audience.

The award will be presented  at Govindas College, Surthkal on December 25 and also he will be felicitated on the occasion, Raghuram Bhagwat informed.

    Ramachandra Kolyur is definitely a deserving candidate for this award.My question is why these awards were not given to him earlier. Do we have to wait to appreciate one's work or contribution to certain art till their goen.It is very frustrating to see slow realisation of such great artists by our people.
