Mangalore, Dec 3: Former MLA, Vijay Kumar Shetty, said that Congress party has decided to request the state Governor to intervene and take steps against the administration of the local city corporation, which has been going ahead with the implementation of Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) and Master Plan for the city, which are harmful to the interests of the common and poor people. He was addressing a press conference in the Congress office here on Friday December 2.
“We will be approaching the Governor to stop the current city corporation, which has ammended CDP for a third time, and thus given rise to a situation in which it has been made impossible for the common people of the city to build houses of their own,” he explained. He claimed that as per the Urban and Rural Planning Act prevailing in the state, CDP and Master Plan have to undergo modifications or changes only once in ten years. He accused the city corporation of making changes in the CDP thrice during the last 30 months, without providing for any public debate on them. “As per the act, changes can be brought about in Master plan alone. But here, the entire zonal rules have been changed. As against the earlier provision of deciding area of a building proposed to be constructed on the basis of the total site area, the modified Master Plan provides for floor area ratio for the remaining site area alone, after providing for road. This provision is in contravention of the provisions stated in the act,” he claimed.
He said that Congress party will chalk out protest programme based on the outcome of the next meeting being convened by city mayor, Pravin, shortly.
Corporators, Shashidhar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto, Navin D’Souza and Deepak Poojary, explained about the objectionable contents of the amendments. K Ashraf was present.
