Udupi, Dec 2: The students of Polipu Government High School and Pre-University College, near Kaup here, staged a protest by boycotting classes on Friday December 2, against their physical training instructor who allegedly threatened a girl student after sexually abusing her and recording it on his mobile phone.
Student leader Latish presented a memorandum to BEO M N Madhyasta who arrived at the college, heeding to the pressure from students.
The students stated in their memorandum that Chandrashekar Adiga, a native of Kundapur, had sexually abused a girl student during the annual day celebration held recently. He had recorded the act on his mobile and was threatening her with the clips. The college authorities were urged to sack him in the interest of students and to guard the reputation of the college.
Speaking to media persons, Latish said that such acts tarnish the image of the college. “Chandrashekar Adiga has sexually abused a girl student. He deserves punishment,” alleged Latish.
BEO Madhyasta said that he had learned of the incident from the dailies and had come to the college to gather first hand information. “Legal action will be taken on the basis of a police report and the complaint filed by students. The erring person will be punished. The students decision to protest is logical but they are at a loss due to boycotting classes,” he said and urged the students to go back to their classrooms.
A group of students who have been studying in the college for three years, said that Adiga is not the kind of man as claimed by a section of students. They said that Adiga is known to have a few enemies who are responsible for this act and added that the police must reveal the truth and arrest the culprit.
Kaup police registered a case in this regard and arrested Adiga, who was presented before the judge. He has been remanded to judicial custody till Saturday December 3.
