Udupi: JP Hegde pressures Centre to reject Kasturirangan report, advocates protests at Jantar Mantar

Udupi, Oct 19: “A detailed report has been submitted to the state government before rejecting the Kasturirangan report. Meanwhile, the MPs from the region did not attend the meeting called by the Union environment minister in Delhi and are now politicising the issue,” said former MP Jayaprakash Hegde.

Clarifying the status of the Kasturirangan report, Hegde stated, “Not a single MP from this region attended the meeting with the environment minister; they should have participated to discuss the matter. When Vinay Kumar Sorake was a minister in his previous term, he visited the entire region, held meetings with locals, and submitted the report. Based on this report, the state government has now rejected it. The ball is now in the central government’s court; they need to decide.”

He added, “Let them organise a protest at Jantar Mantar, and we will surely join them. As a first step, the issue must be discussed with the Union environment minister, who needs to take a delegation to the prime minister. Instead of organising a protest here, it’s essential to have a meaningful discussion; otherwise, the protest will be of no use.”
