Udupi, Oct 19: Two minor girls were rescued at Malpe beach on October 18 after they were found wandering suspiciously.
The girls, reportedly from Haveri, shared that they wished to continue their education but lacked parental support. They had travelled to Udupi with the intention of begging to raise money for their schooling.
Their behaviour on the beach raised concerns, prompting beach patrol staff member Suresh Anchan to question them. Upon learning that the girls had left home, Anchan quickly informed social worker Nityananda Volakadu to ensure their safety. Volakadu then notified the Child Welfare Committee and the Child Protection Unit.
Later, Volakadu, along with city women's police station PSI Preman Gowda Patil and constable Mahadev, rescued the girls and rehabilitated them at the Nittur girl’s shelter.
Mahesh from the Child Protection Unit was also present during the rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
