Mangalore: Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing Organizes Jatha to Mark World AIDS Day

Mangalore, Dec 1: As many as 700 nursing students of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing, a unit of Laxmi Memorial Educational Trust, along with the faculty, conducted a ‘Jatha’ to mark World AIDS Day on Thursday December 1.
The Jatha was carried out from A J hospital, Kuntikana to KSRTC Bus stop. It was inaugurated and flagged off by Dr Sanjeev Rai, chief of medical services, Father Muller Hospital. Prashanth Shetty, vice-president, LMET was the guest of honour.

The theme for World AIDS Day 2011 is “Getting to Zero.” The chief guest Dr Sanjeev elaborated on the theme.
Dr Larissa Martha, principal, Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing welcomed the gathering. Jatha was concluded at KSRTC stand where the students performed a street play to create awareness about AIDS. Good number of crowd gathered to witness the play.
The significance of the day was briefed by professor Jennifer D’Souza, HOD, community health nursing department, Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing. Sidda Gowda, sub-inspector of Kadri police station was present during the jatha.
