Beltangady, Dec 1: “The practice of Yoga strengthens one’s mental faculties, physique, and also leads to spiritual bliss,” said Yogacharya Dr B K S Iyyengar from Pune.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘36th National Yogasana Championship – 2011’ at Amrutavarshini auditorium, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, on Tuesday November 29.

“Yoga gives steady control over five senses, which leads to good health. Meditation makes one aware of divinity,” added Dr Iyyengar.

Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, in his presidential address, said that nearly three lac students are trained in yoga and moral studies as well as 3,000 teachers. “It’s due to yoga training that confidence levels have increased among students when facing examinations and study pressures,” he added.

Dr Heggade advised that yoga be taught in state-run schools as benefits can be seen in the form of better results in annual examinations.

Hemavati V Heggade, D Harshendra Kumar, M S Vishwanath, Dr Prashant Shetty, B Sitaram Tolpadittaya, and I Sasikant Jain were present on the occasion.
