Madikeri: Three Held for Defacing Field Marshal’s Statue

Madikeri, Dec 1: The personnel of Kodagu district crime intelligence bureau have succeeded in cracking the case of insulting of the statue of Field Marshal K M Cariappa standing at Sudarshan Circle here two weeks back.
On November 15 morning, it was found that a shoe was hanging from the hand of the statue, and this had given rise to protest and public outcry in the district which takes proud in being the birth place of the Field Marshal, who was the first commander-in-chief and Indian chief of army staff of India.
Three boys, K C Vallesh alias Shivu (17), son of Chinna from China Gate in the town, and sons of Devaraju from Dechur, K D Pavan (16), and K D Sumant (15), were arrested. Reportedly, these three boys are addicted to liquor and drugs.
It is said that at around 8.30 pm on Monday November 14, these three friends were sitting near the statue of Cariappa, when Shivu, in a state of intoxication, hung an old shoe he was wearing to the hand of the statue, and tossed the other into the roadside forest. The policemen said that K D Pavan and Sumant witnessed this incident.
In a release, Kodagu district superintendent of police, Manjunath K Annigeri, said that the accused have been produced in the juvenile court.
