Sullia, Nov 30: K S Shivaramu, president of Karnataka State Backward Classes Awareness Forum was allegedly beaten up by a crowd for protesting against ‘Made Made Snana’ a traditional ritual at the Kukke Subramanya Temple.
On Tuesday November 29, members of the Forum came to the temple condemning the ritual and demanded to stop the traditional Made Snana. An appeal was sent to Puttur assistant commissioner and to temple administrator Sundar Bhat to ban the practice of rolling over the plantain leaves at the temple.
Thereafter, talking to media persons, Shivaramu questioned the practice of serving food in different rows based on community. "About this we will make a report and produce before the Supreme Court. We have taken the permission of Sundar Bhat," they claimed.
At this juncture, the mob is said to have attacked the president of the Forum in front of the police and chased him. Though there were enough policemen to stop them, they did nothing, it is alleged.
Made made snana has been performed at the temple premises for three days during the annual Champa Shasthi festival for many years. The ritual continued on the third day here despite controversy.
A case has been registered in Subramanya police station.
