Kasargod: Media Person’s ID Card Removed, Locked Up for Night

Kasargod, Nov 30: Even as an incident in which a reporter of ‘India Vision’ television channelm named Fauzia, and three other television crew members were assaulted by the police is fresh in the memory of the local people, another such incident has occurred at Bekal in the district.

Rajesh Mangad, a reporter attached to ‘Deshabhimani’ daily, was returning home on his motor bike when the policemen attached to Bekal station stopped him. When he introduced himself as a media peson, and showed his identity card, they accused media persons of creating lot of problems, and threw his card away. Rajesh said he was assaulted by them thereafter, his mobile phone was snatched away, and that he was kept in the lock up of Bekal station during the night. He said he was released at 9 am on Tuesday November 29.

In the meanwhile, Journalists Association here has condemned the atrocity on press person, and protested against the increasing incidents of assault on press persons.
