Kasargod, Oct 11: P Anoop, the sub-inspector of Chandera police station, has been suspended in connection with the alleged involvement in the suicide of auto-rickshaw driver Abdul Sattar from the city. Previously serving as the sub-inspector of Kasargod town police station, Anoop was transferred to Chandera station following the allegations. On Monday, Abdul Sattar committed suicide by hanging at the quarters near the railway station.

Abdul Sattar’s auto-rickshaw had been taken into custody for allegedly obstructing vehicle movement on one of the city roads. Despite several attempts to retrieve his vehicle by visiting the police station, the authorities were unwilling to release the auto-rickshaw. Frustrated by this, Sattar took the extreme step of ending his life.

The district police superintendent Balakrishnan Nair had ordered an investigation into the incident, and a report was submitted to district police chief D Shilpa. Following this, sub-inspector Anoop was suspended. Various political parties, organizations, and the auto-rickshaw drivers' association had been pressing for his suspension, and they had even planned protests.

In addition to this, other allegations against sub-inspector Anoop have surfaced. A video has emerged showing Anoop behaving inappropriately with an auto-rickshaw driver in Kasargod city. The video, which has been widely circulated, shows him grabbing the driver by the collar and attempting to take him into custody over a trivial matter.
