Beltangady: SDM College Students Qualify for Asian Power Lifting Competition

Beltangady, Nov 30: Two students of SDM College, Ujire, will represent India in the Asian Power Lifting Competition that will be held in Kobe City, Japan, from Monday December 5 to Friday December 9.
Vinuta, II B Com, and Neha, I B Com, will compete in the 52 kg and 82 kg category, respectively.
Both weightlifters hail from Puttur and qualified to compete in international competitions by winning gold and silver medals in both state and national level sports meets.
Vinuta is the daughter of Choma and Yashoda Naika, and bagged the gold medal in the state level senior power lifting competitions held in Mangalore recently. She also put up a superb show at the national competitions held in Chattisgarh.
Vinuta had bagged silver in the Mangalore varsity competitions held in Karkala and was adjudged ‘strong woman’ after bagging the gold in national competitions held in Salem in 2010. She had brought fame to SDM College by bagging five golds in weightlifting competitions held at the state and national levels.
Neha is the daughter of Narayan and Usha and bagged gold in the sub-junior national competitions held recently in Maharastra, the senior level state competitions held in Mangalore, and Mangalore varsity competitions held in Karkala. She also bagged gold in the South India sub-junior division held in Tamil Nadu during 2010 and silver in the senior division. Neha also bagged the gold in the selection test held in Salem.
Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade congratulated both the weightlifters for qualifying for the international competition. He also announced a grant of Rs 1.20 lac for each student for their overseas trip.
