Udupi tourism dept warns homestays, resorts against disturbing locals

Media Release

Udupi, Oct 8: The Udupi district tourism department has issued a warning to homestays and resorts, urging them to operate without causing any disturbances to local residents. This follows multiple complaints from locals alleging that some establishments are violating regulations and engaging in unethical activities, leading to disruptions in the community.

The department emphasized that all approved homestays and resorts must strictly adhere to its conditions and ensure they do not inconvenience the locals. Any violation of these rules could result in the revocation of their operating licenses.

According to the Karnataka Tourism Trade Facilitation (KTTF) Act 2015, homestays, resorts, and other tourism-related activities can only be conducted with proper approval from the tourism department. However, the department has noted that some establishments are operating without the necessary licenses. Such unauthorized activities will be immediately halted, and the concerned businesses will only be allowed to resume after obtaining the required approvals.

Though I am not from this great place Udupi but I am so deep in love with this place that I have added the name of the place in my name...India is not like any western country...we have deep rooted culture...place like Udupi, Hampi, are our pride...the weather, soft spoken educated humble people, great food, spiritual vibe, wonderful culture - in short, one can find a peace of mind is there in Udupi. Let's not destroy this heritage for some money...Home stay is a great concept of hospitality but we should not kill its asthetic values...Let's save our beloved Udupi from all the evils and odds...I am 40 now and I have a plan to get shifted to Udupi...I heard a loy about this place..often I search on google and YT to know more about this beautiful place...I am also trying to learn Kannad language but not being able get some good source where (online) I can learn Grammer, words, sentence etc I mean the real way one can learn any language...I have to learn the language efficiently otherwise it can be difficult to embrace the local culture of the place...can anybody help me in this?

Home stays are with a concept of providing additional income to homes where additional rooms are available -- possibly only husband and wife living -(children gone away -- etc. empty nest -- proverbial --) --- apart from income a form of business which can kill day to day boredom as lot of life can be brought in by visiting paying guests -- meeting new people etc. -- new stories -- ALSO, guests can get clean local food / cuisine -- tips on good living etc. etc. - from home stay owners - chatting -- see local places and come back to a home-- for the night -- short stay -- NOW THIS HAS BEEN CORRUPTED POSSIBLY by a new set of entrepreneurs looking for quick money -- no checks on visiting guests -- character etc -- --They can kill this good concept of tourism promotion -
