Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Nov 28: A man is found to have defrauded a cooperative society by pledging spurious gold ornaments on different occasions over a period of time, and availing loans against them. He was caught in the act, while trying to avail of another such loan on Saturday November 26.

The man in question has been identified as Zubaira, a resident of Hoode near here. He had raised loans amounting to Rs 6,53,000 on nine occasions between June 2 to October 8 by pledging different gold ornaments. On Saturday, he approached the society again for a loan, with four bangles and a chain. After the concerned employees grew doubtful about the genuineness of the ornaments, they got them verified. After finding them to be fake, they subjected all the jewellery the man had pledged to the society so far, to detailed scrutiny. To their horror, they found that all the gold ornaments he had brought to the society so far were made of spurious gold.

On a complaint filed by the manager of the society, a case has been registered in Malpe police station. Investigation is under progress.
