Kundapur, Sep 29: Udupi District Sessions court judge Abdul Raheem Hussain Sheikh expressed the view that "government schools must maintain high standards with quality education, and efforts should be made to sustain government schools."
He spoke at a programme held on Sunday, September 29, at the Sri Vinayaka Sabhagruha in Kumbhashi, Annegudde.
The event was organised under the leadership of the Karnataka State School Development and Management Committees Coordination Centre, along with the Taluk Legal Services Committee and other organisations.
During the event, the district-level government school development Harikaar Award for the 2024-25 academic year, the Udupi district best teacher award, and the district best SDMC Award were presented.
He emphasised the vital role of teachers in the education sector, stating, "I also have experience working as a teacher. The responsibility of teachers in the social system is significant. Through Teacher’s Day celebrations, everyone should understand the importance of our mentors. Compared to other countries, our nation gives greater priority to the guru tradition. While we have received value-based education, there are discrepancies in the current education system, leading the youth community off course."
He expressed concern over the misuse of mobile technology, saying, "The youth are getting lost in this era, and we need to raise awareness about this issue." He also highlighted the importance of maintaining mental and physical well-being alongside education.
During the event, retired headmistress Sumana Kalyan from Karkala was honoured.
The Government School Development Harikaar Award at the district level was presented to Anand C Kunder, the promoter of Geethanand Foundation in Kota.
Additionally, the winners of the District Best Teacher Award were recognised. Committees from Kumbhashi, Valakadu, Gujjadi, Nallur, Gantubi?u, and Hangarakatte schools received awards as the District Best School Development Committee.
Abdul Salam Chittor, president of the School SDMC Coordination Centre, chaired the meeting and presented the opening remarks.
The programme was attended by senior judges including Raju N, senior civil judge of Kundapura, M Purushottam, senior judge of the District Legal Authority, Shankar Aithal, president of Geetha H S N Foundation, Mangaluru Director Renny D'Souza, and other dignitaries.
Taluk unit president S V Nagaraj welcomed the guests, while vice-president Usha Ramesh gave the vote of thanks. The programme was conducted by vice-president Rajashekar and organising secretary Shobha Shantaraj.
