Mangaluru: Episcopal city deanery, Chair in Christianity holds convention

Mangaluru, Sep 23: The Episcopal city deanary and Chair in Christianity jointly organised a convention at Father Muller Medical College Hospital convention centre on Sunday September 22.

The Varado Pastoral Parishad members and the Parish Pastoral Parishad members of 11 parishes were present. The programme began with the prayer song led by the Bejai parish.

The dean Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, introduced the programme and highlighted the occasion of convention and welcomed the gathering. The Fr Muller medical college hospital presented the kavali highlighting the past, present and future of the church.

The main topic was presented and the speakers were introduced by fr Maxim D’Souza. Dr J B Saldanha spoke on the state of affairs before the Vatican council 11 and highlighted the changes linking it today's state of affairs.

Francis D’Cunha spoke on the opportunities of the lay faithful in the church to be involved and Dr Antony George Pinto enumerated the present-day challenges that the clergy, religious and lay faithful face in the Holy Mother the church.

Jeppu parish enacted the Parable of the Sower, the Bendur parish youth presented the values of the family insisting on bonding, to be successful in life. The Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha, appreciating the Mangalorean community, called on the commitment in service and synodality.

He also explained the relevance of the church to the modern times. The moderator stated the necessity of the Parish Pastoral Parishad, the commissions and the stipulated bodies of the church to build up a community and the status of the people of God.

Dr Ritesh and Dr Shannon compared the programme. John D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks. The participants appreciated the input sessions. All joined the dinner with the sense of joy and togetherness. Around 560 people were present.
