Udupi: Global Incubator for Women honors Dr Shirley Lewis Salins

Udupi, Sep 17: Dr Shirley Lewis Salins, associate professor and head of the department of radiotherapy and oncology at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal, has been recognized as one of India’s top 100 Women Innovators in the health care professional category. This prestigious recognition was awarded by the Global Incubator for Women (Women novator) during an award ceremony held at the Indian National Science Academy, Mandi House, New Delhi.

The women novator initiative, founded by Tripti Singhal Somani, seeks to empower women leaders, entrepreneurs, and innovators across sectors like healthcare, technology, and education. With a network of over 10,000 women spanning 50 cities globally, the platform offers mentorship, networking, and funding opportunities to women innovators. Dr Shirley' recognition underscores her pioneering work in radiotherapy and oncology and her contributions to improving cancer care in India.

Dr Padmaraj Hegde, dean of KMC Manipal, expressed his pride in Dr Shirley' achievement, stating, “Dr Shirley Lewis Salins has been a trailblazer in the field of oncology, and her work continues to make a significant impact in healthcare innovation. This recognition is a true reflection of her dedication and expertise.”

Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, echoed the sentiment, adding, “Her work in oncology is exemplary, and her recognition at this national platform further reinforces our institution's commitment to advancing healthcare through innovation and research.”

The Global Incubator for Women, through its 10-week incubation programme, provides women with the tools they need to scale their businesses, access procurement opportunities, and become leaders or job creators.
