Londan, Sep 15: The SKA London celebrated Monthi Feast with immense devotion and festivity on September 8, at Alperton Community School. This traditional celebration brought together the Mangalorean community in the UK, offering a meaningful blend of faith, culture, and togetherness.
The event commenced with a heartwarming ceremony outside the hall, where children offered flowers to Mother Mary. This symbolic act of devotion was followed by the blessing of the new grain, led by Bishop Dr Gerald Lobo, Fr Lawrence Devin Noronha, and Fr Roshan Lopez. The gathering included not just local community members but also representatives from other Mangalorean organizations like KCA UK, UK Konkans, MUKA Nottingham and prayer group London.
The Preston Brass Band provided a lively band, setting a joyous tone as attendees moved in a grand procession into the hall for the Holy Mass. The mass, officiated by Bishop Dr Gerald Lobo was the spiritual highlight of the day. His sermon was deeply uplifting, and the choir led by Alwyn Saldanha enriched the spiritual atmosphere. After the mass, which concluded, attendees enjoyed a traditional Mangalorean lunch, during which the sacred ‘Nove’ was distributed.
Post lunch, a formal stage programme began with Gaywin Lasrado serving as the master of ceremonies. The event saw the official launch of the SKA website by Bishop Dr Gerald Lobo, marking a significant step forward for the community. Westminster Bishop Rt Paul McAleenan also graced the occasion, adding prestige to the event.
Key community members and sponsors were honoured during the programme, including a special felicitation for SKA president Sunil D'Cunha for his tireless work in supporting the community. The programme featured addresses from both Bishop Paul McAleenan and Bishop Gerald Lobo, who emphasized the importance of preserving Mangalorean heritage.
The cultural segment featured a comedic skit by Sangon Mugdhana Kalakar, Dubai, and dance performances by the energetic Groove & Glam dance group, adding entertainment and liveliness to the evening. The event wrapped up with a traditional Baila dance, bringing everyone to the floor to celebrate together.
The SKA Monthi Feast concluded leaving attendees with cherished memories and a renewed sense of community. Special thanks were extended to all sponsors, volunteers, and the SKA team, whose efforts made the event a grand success.
