Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Nov 20: In an incident that occurred at Nala in Gerukatte village in the taluk on Friday November 19, a fall tree accounted for four electric poles and a shop, besides damaging a parked motor bike.

The repair of this road between Guruvayanakere and Uppinangady is being undertaken after a long time, due to persistent and protracted demand from the local people. However, complaints about damaged pipelines and cables, and such other things are pouring in every day, on account of road works. In one such incident, four electric poles fell to the ground, a roadside petty shop was damaged, and a motor bike was damaged due to the fallen tree on Friday.

It is learnt that Mescom was not informed about the removal of the tree in advance. The public works department had informed forest department about the need to remove this tree two years ago. Mescom too did not take interest to remove the tree, and the forest department kept mum. Hence, the contractors used  JCB to remove the tree, which gave rise to heavy losses, it is learnt.
