Mangalore: Purushottam Mallya Chosen for Konkani Lifetime Achievement Award

Mangalore, Nov 18: N Purushottam Mallya Kochi, founder of Konkani Bhasha Prachar Sabha, has been chosen for Srimati Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Lifetime Award being given by Vishwa Konkani Kendra here. The award has been sponsored by former Infosys Technologies director, philanthropist and visionary, T V Mohandas Pai.
The award carries cash reward of one lac rupees, along with a memento and citation. The award will be handed over at a function slated to be held at Kochi on November 19. Basti Vaman Shenoy will preside over the function.
Purushhottam Mallya has been in the forefront of movement to strengthen Konkani language and culture since the last several decades. He was also involved with the movement aimed at winning the recognition of being an independent language for Konkani, and its inclusion in the eighth schedule of Indian Constitution.
At the above function, scholarships will be given to 30 students from Kerala with Konkani as mother tongue, for pursuing engineering and medical education. 50 more students will receive scholarships for college education.
Vishwa Konkani Scholarship Fund president, Ramdas Kamath U, and secretary, Pradeep G Pai, will be present.
