Mangalore, Nov 17: A progress review meeting on performance of various departments in the district, which wa chaired by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge secretary, B S Ramprasad, was held at the office of the deputy commissioner here on Wednesday November 16. He instructed the department officials to ensure that top priority is given to finishing of highway development work, and that the work is completed before the deadline. He also revealed that the state Chief Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, will be inspecting the road works once the same is completed, and urged the officials to get involved with the road works in all seriousness.
Official representing the district Wenlock Hospital drew the attention of Ramprasad to the fact that the hospital needs a minimum annual budgetary support of Rs 20 lac per year, as against which, the government’s grant was a measly Rs 5 lac. He said a grant of Rs 25 lac has been sought from the grant of the local MLC to bridge the gap. District social welfare officer, Pravin Furtado, said that there are 50 vacancies in the posts of wardens of hostel. He pointed out that no fresh appointments from the district are not taking place, and people hailing from other districts refuse to come here.
City Corporation commissioner, Dr Harish Kumar, said that Rs 20 crore out of the second phase special grant of hundred crore rupees, has been earmarked for the integrated development of proposed new bus stand near Pumpwell in the city, and preparation of estimate towards the same is in progress.
Officials of various departments also came up with details of progress like demand of Rs 139 crore grants for acquisition of 150 acres of land for extending runway at airport to 13,000 ft, repair of playground under the control of youth services and sports department, and unsatisfactory investigation into fake stamp paper scandal in Sullia.
