Mumbai, Aug 27: Dr Sridhar Shetty, principal of Mumbai Bunts association S M Shetty College said, “Now the definition of poverty has changed in India. There is no shortage of food and cloth. But those who do not get quality education are the real poor of this country.”
Dr Shetty was speaking in the inauguration ceremony of science and computer laboratory donated to Shirva Hindu higher primary school in memory of Later Rohit H Shetty, son of Harish Shetty, retired senior executive vice president of HDFC bank and Prof Dr Vidya Shetty, associate professor of Mumbai Vidyavinarha K J Somaiah Medical College.
S Nithyananda Hegde, president of school education committee, who presided over the function, said, “Harish Shetty and Prof Dr Vidya Shetty, who have donated science and computer laboratory to this school which has completed centenary of its existence, are felicitated. We have an aim of founding Rs 50 lac permanent fund to adopt poor children. The responsibility of providing good future to more than 150 students who are studying in this school is on us.”
The couple who gave invaluable gift to the school were felicitated. School education committee was inaugurated. ID card to students of school provided by donors was distributed.
V Subbaiah Hegde, secretary of Shirva Vidyavardhaka Sangha offered his wishes. Sripati Kamath, secretary of old students association and Kiran, president of PTA were present.
Administrative officer of Shirva Vidyavardhaka Sangha Prof Y Bhaskar Shetty welcomed. Head teacher Shalini Shetty rendered vote of thanks. Supreeta Shetty, lecturer of Hindu PU College compered the event.
