Panaji, Nov 15: Justice M B Shah Commission is likely to give its first report Goa illegal mining on December 1.

Commission, which has been investigating into the iron ore mining illegalities in Goa, is in its final stages of preparing exhaustive report that would uncover the illegal mining in the state.

“The first report on Goa would be submitted to Union Mines Ministry on December 1,” a senior commission member said adding that the second report would be submitted subsequently.

The commission has been investigating Goa’s Iron ore extraction, trading and exports since mid-September, this year. Eight teams were formed, who with the help of local Mines and Geology Ministry, had inspected 90-odd working mines and 30-odd non working mining leases to come to the final conclusion.

A senior member from commission said that the team would be visiting Goa for the third and final round of investigation in November last week.

Justice M B Shah, heading the commission, was not available for his comment as his office staff claimed that, he is out of station.

The illegal iron ore mining in Goa is estimated between Rs 1,200 crore to Rs 10,000 crore. Goa Legislative Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on illegal mining had estimated the illegal trade to the tune of Rs 4,000 crore in last five years.
