Kundapur, Aug 20: Kundapur MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi stressed that the path laid down by Narayana Guru, a pioneer of societal transformation, should serve as a guiding light for everyone.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 170th birth anniversary celebration of Brahmashri Narayana Guru, organized at the Kundapur Taluk Panchayat Hall under the auspices of the Kannada and Culture Department of the Karnataka government, Taluk administration, and Taluk Panchayat.
Brahmashri Narayana Guru was a visionary who led humanity on the path of improvement through the implementation of profound messages that strengthened society. His birth anniversary should not just be a symbolic event, but his messages must reach the society at large. Narayana Guru's philosophy of illuminating society through a peaceful and silent revolution remains relevant for all times, the MLA said.
Speaking at the event, Ashok Poojary Beejadi, president of the Taluk Billava Samaj Seva Sangha, remarked that Narayana Guru initiated a social revolution against the entrenched evils of untouchability, oppression, and superstition, and worked tirelessly for the betterment of society.
Narayana Guru was a prominent figure who raised his voice against the atrocities faced by oppressed communities. He firmly believed that education was the key to resolving all societal issues, he added.
Ashok Poojary also urged the MLA to work towards securing funds for the Narayana Guru Development Corporation and requested the construction of hostels for students from oppressed communities in rural areas of Kundapur and Byndoor taluks to facilitate their education.
The event was attended by assistant commissioner Mahesh Chandra, Byndoor MLA Gururaj Shetty Gantihole, taluk panchayat executive officer Shashidhar, president of the Taluk Billava Mahila Sangha Girija Manigopal, and president of the Taluk Billava Youth Sangha Sandesh Poojary.
