Mangaluru, Aug 17: In a ceremony marked by the blessings of elders and community leaders, Indian Grand Mufti A P Abubakar Musliyar Kantapura officially took charge as the new khazi of Ullal on Saturday. The event, held at the Ullal dargah, was organized by the Ullal Juma Masjid and Syed Madani Dargah Committee.
In his address, Khazi A P Ustad reflected on his journey, highlighting the importance of religious education imparted by his gurus. He noted that the establishment of Markaz College, under the guidance of Sheikh of Madavoor, was a significant milestone in his career, positioning him to take on greater responsibilities within the community.
District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao praised the historic significance of the Ullal dargah, stating that it has consistently been a source of positive guidance for both the state and the nation. He lauded the dargah's role in fostering unity, education, and social welfare.
Speaker U T Khader echoed these sentiments, stating that the appointment of A P Ustad as Khazi brings hope for the future development of Ullal. He noted the Dargah committee's long-standing contributions to education, healthcare, and social services.
Dargah president Hanif advocated for Ullal's recognition as the Islamic Capital of Karnataka, emphasizing its historical role as a center for Islamic scholars. He called on the government to provide full support to the Dargah.
The ceremony was attended by various religious leaders and community dignitaries, who honoured AP Ustad and highlighted the significance of the khazi's position. The event also included the foundation stone laying for the new Syed Madani Shariah College building.
