Bantwal, Aug 16: The KNR Constructions company has commenced tarring work on a section of the service road in Melkar. The work on the service road leading from B C Road to Melkar was initiated this evening in the market area of Melkar.

Local shopkeepers and the public had previously protested by blocking the company’s vehicles, citing issues with dust that made breathing difficult when mud and rain accumulated on the road.

During the protest, they insisted that the company officials, who arrived at the scene, temporarily fix the road by laying tar. The company, which had promised to begin the work within a week, has now started the tarring as promised.

Asphalting is another tactic in the garb of making quick money thereby encouraging shoddy shabby work and third rated material quality. Road expansion work on the busy junction of the Bantwala Cross Road is completed and the ongoing road leading to the Jodumarga Udyavana Garden was concreted recently. One fails to understand the need to asphalt the Melkar service road especially when monsoon is still on. Instead it could have been concreted.
