Kabul, Nov 12 (IANS): At least eight civilians were killed Saturday in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan, while a suicide bomber blew himself up near a police van, leaving five people injured, officials said.
The roadside bombing took place in eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province, an official said.
The blast occurred around 10 a.m. in Mitram district, near the provincial capital Mehtarlam, some 90 km from Kabul, spokesman for the provincial government Saydanullah Patan told Xinhua.
All the people in the vehicle, including a woman and a child, were killed on the spot.
In the second incident, the suicide bomber targeted a police van around noon in Herat, 640 km from Kabul. Five people, including three policemen and two civilians were injured, a police official told Xinhua.
A total of 1,462 civilians have died in 2011, according to a UN report.
