Mangaluru, Aug 14: Under the aegis of yes, we can youth organization Andhra Pradesh and the Alumni of King's College London in Hyderabad, We the People Trust, has been established in Mangaluru to serve the youth and women communities in the South West region of India. Members of the Trust come from diverse backgrounds including academicians, senior officials, quasi government officers, policy makers, retired officers, lawyers, and students.
In a mission to control drug abuse and cybercrimes mainly among the youth, students and the women, We the People India in collaboration with the Mangaluru city police Mangaluru City Corporation and Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work, on August 12, a global event is organized in the city by promoting awareness campaigns on the themes #Say No to Drugs and #Say Yes to Cyber Safety on the United Nations International Youth Day. Since this day is celebrated across the member nations of the UN and to embark upon the global map of events, about 100 students, police officers and the city municipal corporation joined the event supporting the themes.
A walkathon and street demonstration at Kankanady junction, where youth and students formed a circle displaying placards, showcased the campaign themes to help spread awareness among the citizens.
'This is not a first-time organizing a project event of this scale. Programmes like these would not only empower youth to take part in the Global Agenda 2030 but also advocate the government's mission for sustainable development and bring all stakeholders of the society for a greater good and fight against anti-social elements. We have lined up a series of such projects across the State and neighbouring territories" said the founder Stephen Anurag P.
A wall of signatures at the Valencia Park in the city was also unveiled where participants and the guests signed on the wall as a gesture promoting the cause. Citizens have lauded the efforts of the members of the Trust and expressed support to spread the wings of the mission.
Addressing the participants, ACP Geetha Kulkarni mentioned that "cybersecurity and drug control are the need of the hour. Not only students or youth but also employees and daily wage workers are being victims of these modern-day scams and with the support of organizations like We the People India., authorities could have additional help to address the challenges."
