Udupi, Aug 10: A tribute meeting was organized on Saturday at the Brahmagiri IMA Bhavan in Udupi to honor the late veteran journalist and photographer Jayakar Suvarna. The event was jointly organized by the Udupi District Working Journalists' Association, the South Kanara Photographers' Association (SKPA) of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District, and the Udupi Press Club.
Former minister Pramod Madhwaraj, who attended the event, paid homage to Suvarna, remembering him as an honest journalist who led a humble and friendly life. "Jayakar Suvarna was a person of great humility and a friendly demeanor. He never carried any ego and always had a smile on his face. He never hurt anyone and lived a life free of causing trouble to others, finally passing away peacefully," said Madhwaraj.
Other dignitaries, including former MLA Raghupati Bhat, Udupi Block Congress president Ramesh Kanchan, lecturer Dr Niketana, Udupi District Journalists' Association president Rajesh Shetty Alevoor, state committee member Kiran Manjanabailu, and journalists Mohanchandra Nambiar, Shashidhar Mastibailu, Raheem Ujire, Uday Padiyar, Astro Mohan, SKPA Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District president Padmaprasad Jain, and Udupi zone honorary president Naveen Ballal, also paid their respects.
The event was attended by District Working Journalists' Association general secretary Nazeer Polya, treasurer Umesh Marpalli, Udupi Press Club coordinator Ajit Aradi, co-coordinator Ankit Shetty, SKPA Udupi Zone president Sudheer Shetty, general secretary Divakar Hiriyadka, and members of Jayakar Suvarna's family. The programme was anchored by journalist Nagaraj Varkadi.
