Beltangady, Nov 10: The local policemen, who went to Bangalore and arrested a person who has been accused of clandestinely relieving a woman of her ornaments, came back with the accused on Wednesday November 9. The person they have arrested has been identified as Chandra alias Chandrashekhar (28) from Vidyanagar, Dasarahalli, Bangalore.

A motor bike and gold ornaments worth Rs 2.1 lac were recovered from his possession. The accused was produced in the court on Wednesday, upon which he was remanded to judicial custody.

Deputy superintendent of police, Yashoda Shirabur, said that on January 9 this year, Uma, a resident of Kanakapura near Bangalore, had visited Dharmasthala with her husband, Ramakrishna. Uma developed health complications during her visit, and Chandra, an electrician, who was known to Uma since long, and who had also come to Dharmasthala at that time, had carried her to the hospital in his motor bike. Thereafter, 106 grams of gold ornaments the woman was wearing went missing, and a complaint about the same was lodged in the local police station.

During the investigation, Ramakrishna expressed doubts about the role of Chandra in the missing of ornaments. The policemen arrested the accused from Bangalore on Tuesday. Some of the gold ornaments stolen were found to have been pledged in banks through friends by Chandra, while the remaining were in his possession, the policemen said.

Circle inspector of police, Bhyrappa, sub-inspector, Yogeesh Kumar, and other personnel took part in the operation.
