Kutyady Krishnappa Moolya (30), an auto rickshaw driver by profession, was arrested in this connection. Allegedly, he abducted a local girl aged 21, kept her under house arrest at his brother’s home, and tried to rape her. When the girl shouted in protest, neighbors came to the spot, upon which Moolya ran away. On a complaint filed by the girl, the policemen arrested the man. Relating to the mass rape in Kalai in Koltige village on October 15, district additional superintendent of police, Prabhakar, visited the spot and guided investigation. It is said that a person named Lokesh approached a girl who was waiting at the bus stand in Aivarnad Marvatadka on her return journey after visiting her grandfather, and told her that he was bound for Bellare. She believed him and got into the auto. A little later, two others, named Punit and Kusumadhar, boarded the same auto rickshaw. They reportedly gagged the girl, blindfolded her, and took her to a house located in the midst of a rubber plantation where she was gang-raped. They then brought her back to Bellare and dropped her there. The girl explained the development to her family, and her mother filed a police complaint.
