Puttur, Nov 9: The warehouse of Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Ltd was locked up by the Taluk Agricultural Primary Cooperative Marketting Society Ltd on Monday, for defaulting payment of rent since the last six months. The building in question is situated at Koornadka near here.
After the officials of Karnataka State Warehouse Corporation and Beverages Corporation approached TAPCMS and promised to pay the rent due, the lock was removed on Tuesday. It is learnt that the godown premises, owned by TAPCS, was leased to Warehouse Corporation. The Warehouse Corporation in turn, sub-leased the building to Beverages Corporation.
The rent due to TAPCS had swelled to over Rs 50,000 and the concerned had failed to pay the rent even after reminders. As such, the gate of the premises was locked, clarified TAPCMS president, Chandrashekhar Taltaje. He added that The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd (Campco) is prepared to pay Rs 10,000 per month for this 1,400 sq ft building, and that the godown would be leased to those who offer highest rent. He also warned that TAPCMS will seek legal recourse, if Beverages Corporation continues to default in rent payment.
